The History of the Tan Chong Padula Humanitarian
Awards
The Tan Chong Padula Awards, created by Lola Sablan-Santos
with support and approval from the Padula/Roberto family, recognizes Chamorro
individuals for thier volunteerism and service to the community. This event
was created in honor of Tan Chong Padula (pictured left) for all her work
and service in the Chamorro Comunity. The Tan Chong Padula Humanitarian
Awards is an annual event that was first held on May 1999. The medallion
(given to the awardees) was designed by Chamorro artisan Ron Castro and
encapsulates the essence of Tan Chong, her love for her island of Guam:
her kindness, generosity and compasion.
